About Bezzera Australia Espresso Machines

1906 | Mass Production Begins

Work on mass producing Bezzera machines begins in a workshop in Via Parini in Milan. 

In 1906, the espresso machine was exhibited under the name Bezzera L. Caffè Espresso at the World's Fair in Milan.

The term espresso for coffee prepared in this way was used for the first time on this occasion.

1922 | Humble Beginnings

His son, Giuseppe Bezzera, took over from Luigi Bezzera.
These were difficult years in the management of the business: before the outbreak of the War, there was the embargo of coffee (in place of which chicory and barley were used) imposed by the British; then came the Second World War.

Despite all these adversities, Giuseppe Bezzera managed to grow the family business, increasing production and sales.

In the early ‘30s, the first machine with an evocative name, 'Lilliput', was born, a tradition that has continued to this day.

1942 | World War II

Amidst the turmoil of World War II, Bezzera faced a significant setback when a devastating air raid razed one-third of its facilities. The destruction prompted a resilient response, leading to the relocation of the company from Via Paolo Sarpi, 6, to Via Paolo Sarpi, 90, within Milan.

The company's relocation marked a pivotal moment as a testament to Bezzera's adaptability and perseverance. The wartime upheaval reinforced their resolve to endure and continue their legacy of crafting exceptional espresso machines despite the hardships of the era – paving the way for continued success in the years to come.

1951 | Mrs. Rosita Cardano Bezzera

Following Giuseppe Bezzera's passing, Mrs. Rosita Cardano Bezzera assumed leadership, marking a challenging era for Bezzera.

Gender biases posed hurdles as societal norms in Italy frowned upon women in business, yet Rosita's resolute leadership defied these constraints.

Concurrently, Bezzera faced fierce competition from burgeoning coffee machine giants. Rosita's unwavering determination navigated these trials, symbolizing resilience in a male-dominated industry. Her leadership, amidst societal prejudices and competitive pressures, laid the groundwork for Bezzera's resilience, showcasing their ability to thrive against formidable odds.

1961 | Guido Bezzera

At just 19, Guido Bezzera navigated daunting challenges as he took charge of the company amid severe downsizing, shrinking the workforce to a handful of employees.

Undeterred by the limitations of the Italian market, he boldly steered Bezzera's focus towards international expansion, venturing into uncharted territories like Iran and Portugal. Guido's visionary approach and resilience birthed the Res-Nova, a groundbreaking machine symbolising both a rebirth and pioneering design.

The Res-Nova's prestigious installations at iconic sites marked a turning point, solidifying Bezzera's resurgence under Guido's strategic leadership.

1965 | From Milan to Trezzano Sul Naviglio

The relocation of the company from Milan to Trezzano sul Naviglio marked a pivotal moment driven by the imperative need for expansion. This strategic move was propelled by significant investments in carpentry and turning machines, reflecting a deliberate effort to catalyse growth.

These investments ushered in a transformative phase, elevating the company from a small artisanal entity to a burgeoning industry while retaining its inherent artisanal essence. This shift to a new location, coupled with substantial advancements in machinery and infrastructure, laid the groundwork for a transition towards a more industrialised approach.

1995 | Elise & BZ99 Machines

Mr. Bezzera's entrepreneurial foresight bore fruit through strategic investments, determination, and dedication. Consequently, the company transitioned from Trezzano sul Naviglio to Rosate, marking a significant leap forward.

This relocation fuelled the company's expansion into a spacious 6,000 sq.m. warehouse. Concurrently, the company bolstered its international sales network and streamlined internal production processes, aligning with modern standards.

Notably, within the same year, the Ellisse series and the BZ99 machines were introduced, representing pinnacle achievements in espresso coffee machines.

2001 | Luca Bezzera

As the new millennium commenced, Luca Bezzera assumed the role of Managing Director, marking the fourth generation's leadership. Bezzera expanded into Asian markets, distributing HORECA products, while pioneering semi-professional machines with professional components, signalling the company's entry into the home espresso machine segment.

This strategic shift under Luca Bezzera's leadership showcased a dual focus on global expansion and innovative product diversification, shaping a new era for Bezzera in the espresso industry.

2017 | Two New Warehouses

As part of its ongoing expansion journey, the company took substantial strides by acquiring two additional warehouses, thereby expanding its production area to an impressive 10,000 square meters.

The acquisition of these warehouses was a pivotal step, fortifying the company's foundation and reinforcing its position as a formidable player in the industry, poised for continued growth and success.

Beyond

The Bezzera great legacy and company is now run by Luigi Bezzera's great-grandson Luca Bezzera in Milan Italy.

The company continue to innovate to this day and have a strong legacy steeped in tradition, culture and design.
